You gotta love this simple, sleek pocket knife that’s adorned with a quote from the book of Joshua (verse 1:9). Strong and courageous! These three words are probably the most popular bible verse you’ll find etched on pocket knives. Seriously. If you see a knife with a bible verse on it, it’s probably Joshua 1:9.
Let’s take the time to examine this verse in context by checking out the complete line in the King James Bible (we’re old school like that!).
The full passage of Joshua 1:9 “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
To be strong and courageous is to rely on god and to believe in!
Here’s twenty other bible verses that could also suit a knife. These are quotes about cutting, building, carving, and being in places (like the woods!) where a knife might come in handy. I mean, I love Joshua 1:9, but I think our knife manufacturers could do with a little diversity in their bible verses.
